SAUER – History

As early as 1978 company founder Heinrich Sauer began developing his first aircraft engines on the basis of the uniquitious Beetle, a 4 cylinder horizontally opposed engine known for reliablity. From these first beginnings during the following years a highly sophisticated aircraft engine evolved in which not one part remained the same as it was refined for aircraft use.

Sauer has been commercially producing aircraft engines for Ultralights, Motor-Sailplanes and Light Aircraft since 1987. Our engines are proving their reliability every day throughout europe and the world. Today with more than 650 flying engines produced, Sauer has an excellent renommée.

Today the company, suported since 2005 by Martin Manthey, a pilot himself, comprises the following departments:

  • Certified Development Comany for Aircraft Engines, Enhgine Components and Subassemblies and Components and attached parts, as well as directives for repairs.
  • Certified Repair Shop for Aircraft , piston aircraft engines, Components as well as Retrofit works for Light Aircraft of all Types.
  • Certified Production Company for Aircraft Engines.
