SAUER – a mid-sized Aircraft Engine Manufacturer

Company founder Heinrich Sauer began as early as 1978 developing his first aircraft engines on the basis of the ubiquitious Beetle, a 4 cylinder horizontally opposed engine known for reliablity. From these first beginnings during the following years a highly sophisticated aircraft engine evolved in which not one part remained the same as it was refined for aircraft use.

Today we produce our own cylinder heads, own NiCaSil hardened Aluminum Cylinders, recently redesigned crankshafts with altered crank, our own camshafts and specially forged Alloy Pistons made to last.

All of these improvements had the common goal to supply ample power far below 3000 rpm, where modern compareable engines have less than half the power of our engines. All of this at the same time at significantly reduced weight and durability.

As a result our engines feature a TBO of 1600hrs

Sauer has been commercially producing aircraft engines for Ultralights, Motor-Gliders and Light Aircraft since 1987. Our engines are proving their reliability every day throughout europe and the world. Today with more than 650 flying engines produced, Sauer has an excellent renommée.

Today the company, suported by Martin Manthey, a pilot himself, comprises the following departments:

  • Certified Development Comany for Aircraft Engines, Enhgine Components and Subassemblies and Components and attached parts, as well as directives for repairs.
  • Certified Repair Shop for Aircraft , piston aircraft engines, Components as well as Retrofit works for Light Aircraft of all Types.
  • Certified Production Company for Aircraft Engines.
